Dale City was built by Cecil D. Hylton in 1960 as a subdivision near Woodbridge about 30 miles from Washington, D.C. There were
no shopping centers or supermarkets. If you did not want to drive three miles to A&P in Prince William Plaza or four miles to the Giant in Marumsco Plaza to
buy bread, eggs, and milk, you had them delivered. No pharmacy or pizza restaurant delivered to your home.
The original communities were Ashdale, Birchdale, Cloverdale, and Darbydale. Evansdale and Forestdale were started in 1968 and completed in 1969. The first shopping
center opened in 1969 at Ashdale Plaza. The main stores were Giant, People's Drug Store, High's and Crest Cleaners. None of the original stores remain in Ashdale today.
Dale City continued to expand in the 1970's with the North Forestdale Section Glendale, Hillendale, and Kerrydale. In the 1980's and continuing today, more "Dales" and shopping centers were added:
Lindendale, Mapledale, Nottingdale, Princedale, Queensdale, Ridgedale, Silverdale, and Trentdale. With the continued developments came the need for more schools, churches, roads, services and transportation.
Through the years, DCCA has remained involved in the community.
We host an Annual Awards and Recognition Banquet to honor outstanding members of our community, such as Teacher, Firefighters and Police Officers of the Year. We also present several exemplary
volunteer awards, and scholarships to high school seniors. The Annual Dale City Independence Day Parade is sponsored by DCCA along with ten other organizations. This event is a long standing
tradition, enjoyed by all and it also includes Family Fun Day following the parade.
